Too Much Technology

Capacity & Configuration: Previous refrigerator had smaller advertised capacity, yet held more food. Because of all the space devoted to divided sections and mechanisms in freezer, we had to discard 30% of our frozen food when switching over to the new GE model. Old model simply had one large rectangular area with rack for ice cube container. Granted, it is easier to find things in the new freezer, but at the cost of significant space lost. Multiple drawers and associated mechanisms in the refrigerator section replaced the simple glass shelving and several drawers of our previous model. This also resulted in less space. Temperature Control: Mfr's recommended setting is 37 deg F. Within two days, this caused freezing and ice crystals within plastic box of spinach and damage to lettuce. Cucumber also showed signs of freezing. Raised temp to 41 F. Monitored with a separate thermometer, and got temp fluctuations from 32 - 49 deg F, and additional damage to veggies. Asked appliance dealer for assistance, and they sent a repairman. He very politely and thoroughly explained to us that these new refrigerators do their own thing, and we just have to learn to live with them. Too much technology! Energy: I have neither the equipment nor time to determine if this model is more efficient than our old model. Even this survey seems lacking. I used all five words from the AI-generated Review Topics, and it could only recognize three for sure: Capacity, Configuration and Temperature. It did not see the word Energy, even though t was used as a paragraph title. It could not make up its mind about the word shelving, as this word kept transitioning from a black (word used) to white (word not used) background, and the "topics used" count kept changing between 4/5 and 3/5.

White pieces of plastic in the ice

This GE refrigerator is ok. The water dispenser is inside of the refrigerator so to fill anything you have to stand inside the refrigerator with the doors open!!! So much for energy efficient. Also, there is something wrong with the ice, water dispenser or the water filter. My ice water ALWAYS has white floaters in it. The white pieces look like very thin white plastic. I realize that all Americans are victims of greedy big business and them polluting our water but I don't want extra pollution coming out of my refrigerator.

Compared to previous refrigerator which lasted twenty years not good. I LOVE this refrigerator/freezer! I have 5 kids (ages 10-21 when bought and I've had it 5 years now) I also have 7 grandchildren (all under 6) let me tell you it is durable! I wish the plastic door shelving was more durable because I've replaced 3 over the last 5 years and the freezer door was replaced 2 yrs ago and just broke again last night, it's the plastic piece between the handle and screws which are also hard to get to for replacement. BUT I can't complain it's simple maintenance!

As an 84 year old I find the water dispenser pad actuator extremely difficult to operate due to the necessity to hold strong pressure on the pad for a considerable time. Also, the ice cube on/off switch is located in an awkward location to reach. Otherwise, I like everything else about the product. BTW you may ask why did I buy this model in the first place.....I didn't, it came with my apartment.

Although we had issues with Sears and our first refrigerator that we picked out and it took over a year just for us to have to cancel an order this one. It wasn™€™t the color that we wanted, but it is very efficient. It™€™s very spacious and that is why it gets five stars. The only downside to the refrigerator is the freezer section. I think they need to revamp the way the top shelf slides off the bottom shelf. Sometimes it gets stuck. It gets off track which causes issues which is why we had to get another refrigerator. Overall very happy with the fridge. The doors have a strong detent when closing them that causes the door to open if it isn't slammed or closed with enough effort. It isn't a deal breaker and it may be that we notice it just because our old fridge didn't feel like that when closing the doors. In the meat drawer we actually don't like the divider and we wish that was just open flat space without any dividers or slide rails for dividers.

Brand new: I like the French fridge doors and freezer bottom. The location of the water dispenser is very awkward. First you must open the left door, then working with BOTH hands, operate the device. A positive: when you release the pour button there appears to be no drips, so that's good. My preference is to have it on the front outside door, but that was not an option. Also the ice making device is not easy to stop. I need to dump several bins of ice cubes in order not to have them 'freeze together'. This is extremely wasteful.

Got this in the slate and we just Love the look of the fridge and the fact that its quiet. having a ice maker in the bottom freezer gives you so much more room in the fridge itself. Love that it has lights by the snack draws. A couple of issues i have is that they needed to put more options for shelf adjustment in the fridge Gallon jugs and beverage containers do not fit on the bottom shelves unless you take the shelf out. the internal water dispenser would have been nicer if you didn't have to hold the button to fill up your cup. maybe would have been better if it just had an on/off options. Lastly the water dispenser spout could be a little longer and stick out a little further.

Very disappointed in this fridge. Purchased 5 years and 3 months ago and it stopped cooling. Something has broke on all four kitchen pieces we purchased. Dishwasher trim broke off the first year. Plastic ends on the stove handle fell off the second year. Last year the microwave screen no longer works.

Love the slate color but not the stainless steel handles. Freezer door isn™€™t ™€˜solid™€™ and we lost a lot of freezer space due to the drawers, dividers and ice bin. Water dispenser is not cold at all and it is in an odd place so you must use both hands to dispense water opposed to a press and hold type. We lost space because the door shelves are big and bulky with limited space to adjust height. You either have too much space or just a few inches.

I love the large freezer on the bottom. But only after one week a shelf broke, the bracket snapped. I now have to wait almost one month for a replacement. And this refrigerator was not cheap!

Ice Maker Broken Already

This is a great refrigerator. Good space saver. The downside is that we have only had the refrigerator for two years and the ice machine has already broke. We can replace it ™€" for $500.

Lowe™€™s delivered this with a damaged door. It took 8 weeks & 4 tech visits with many replaced parts to get the water/ice to work. Fridge space is amazing. Freezer is ok, cheap design. GE service was great but I still can™€™t recommend this.
