Dear GE Appliances Team,
I am writing to share my experience with the GE® 36" Under The Cabinet Hood (Model: JVX5360SJSS).
The overall suction power of this hood is quite low and does not effectively remove cooking odors. A major issue seems to be the design itself-there is only one fan located on the left side of the unit. Because of this, the hood works slightly better only when cooking on the left side.
When cooking on the right side, the odors spread very quickly throughout the entire home, making it ineffective for regular use. This uneven suction due to the single-fan design is a significant drawback.
Due to these issues, the product does not meet our expectations for ventilation and odor control. We are interested in upgrading to a more efficient model, preferably with dual fans or stronger, evenly distributed suction. If possible, we would appreciate the option to return or exchange this unit.
Please let us know the available options and next steps.

I like the look. It works as it should. However, removing and replacing a light bulb is too difficult. Changing a light bulb should NOT be difficult.

Very disappointed with this hood. The suction power is extremely poor, and the motor seems to pull air only from one side instead of evenly across the hood. On top of that, a lot of air blows back inside the house through the overflow/openings instead of venting properly outside. Smoke, grease, and cooking odors are not removed effectively, which defeats the whole purpose of having a vent hood. For the price and GE brand name, I expected much better performance. Would not recommend.

When we moved in to our new home I was happy to have GE appliances. Less than 2 years later I™™m not feeling so happy. One light burned out on the hood, with scorch marks on the connections. The service man said the wiring was all wrong and it needs replacing. It seems it was designed just to last for one year. If you care about durability DON™™T BUY this product.

It has curb appeal. 3 fan speeds. Low is low and high sounds like a work horse. Lights are great on low for early morning activities and high really lights up the area. Have not had it installed long enough to add anything else.

Installation instructions were poor at best. Once installed the light burned out within 5 minutes. The exhaust damper duct rattles quite loud when on high fan but is good on low and medium. I like the look but just some irritating things to work through.

It's absolutely great has a bigger fan than my other one did. It even has a booster when set on hi for if you wind up burning what your cooking and it's push button. The two filters surround the whole inside of the hood! Love it!

This is so dangerous. The lights get instantly inhumanly hot. I got burned and it almost burned my house down. They get so hot that they made the glass turn brown. It™™s so loud on high. It makes so much noise. I changed the lights out but now there™™s only light level. It™™s terrible.

This product works well for us, but the backdraft damper is very noisy in all three fan settings (we vent straight up). Prepping it for installation was not easy, it took a lot to get the various ports open for the electrical and damper installation, and GE is too cheap to include the properly sized clamp to hold the wiring in the junction box opening - it is an odd size so the 3/4" was slightly too large and the opening had to be enlarged which took a bit of time. In the installation videos we watched online some folks drilled the electrical port out while others bent it, we opted for a Dremel. There are a lot of sharp metal bits after removal of the vent ports so watch your hands as they will draw blood, the corners of the hood itself are quite sharp so watch your head, the surface is hard to keep clean, and the lights are quite hot, both above and below. LEDs would have been much better.
Pros are the price, the directions in the manual were relatively clear, and it wasn't too hard to install once it was prepped. It does work quite well and is a marked improvement over our original 1970's GE that didn't work at all. The airflow is good, there has been no smell in the house when cooking since we installed it a couple of days ago. The look is sleek and compact, and the color of the halogens is warm. Would have loved an even dimmer option on the controls (3 instead of 2) for the lights. This is the first time we have purchased a range hood, if we had to do it again I would buy something more well made.

It works fine but the installation was more difficult than it had to be. I was replacing a 50 year old one also a GE. There were two problems. First the location of the four mounting holes was moved from the old unit. Less than an inch but enough that I had to measure new locations and drill new holes. Then the instructions said to use screws "F" but no screws were included and no definition of what the F screws might be and no indication that you had to get your own. Next, the location of the electrical entrance was moved from one side of the unit to the other. This necessitated adding a box, drilling through two studs and adding a length of 14/2 wire to get the existing wire to the new location.
On the topic of noise, the filters can rattle and so can the loose ends of sheet metal that forms the back of the control box. Are they supposed to be loose like that? And finally, the motor/fan vibrate at the highest speed.
On the subject of lights. The supplied halogen bulbs get hot enough to make me nervous. They made the top of the housing so hot it could burn you. I have already replaced them with LED bulbs at less than one quarter of the power. Changing GU10 bulbs was not easy. I'm sure something with a screw base would have worked. Come on GE. You do make light bulbs.
And one last quibble. The lower front corners are sharp edges and could cut you if you bumped into them. They should be smoothed out or covered with something with some give to it.

This is a good product. My only issue is with the lighting system. Within the first year of having this product installed brand new one of the lights fell out of the socket and hasn™™t worked correctly ever since it fell out of the socket. We are unable to secure it tightly back into the socket.

I recently purchased the GE under-the-cabinet range hood and found it to be poorly made and extremely difficult to install. The screws intended to secure the damper were too big and didn't fit properly. It's baffling why they chose that particular Phillips head type, and I had to use other screws. The screws for the electrical box weren't Phillips head and appeared stripped, making them very hard to remove. Using standard Phillips screws would have made more sense.
The rectangular vertical discharge knock-out was welded in six different places, making it incredibly hard to remove without multiple tools. The instructions were terrible, covering several models and forcing you to guess how to install this specific one. Their YouTube video claimed it was a 10-minute install, but it took me around 3 hours, and I'm pretty handy.
Overall, this product is frustratingly designed with poor-quality materials. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a straightforward installation process.

Used the hood twice and one of the lights went out. About a week later the other light went out. Replacing blubs did not work. Then everything quit working, circuit board went out, so we now have a GE repairman coming to fix it. I replaced my GE appliances of over 40 years old with new GE appliances and the hood and my wall oven both have had to have repairs after using them for less than a month. Extremely disappointing.

Unit replaced an older GE. I wished it had LED lighting but am able to live with the Halogen. Fan levels are good, and lighting is excellent, I had it installed and after watching the installation I feel I made the right choice. Lowes installers were professional, courteous and completed the job in an efficient manner..

The fan really only works on one side of the unit. The other side has a mesh for looks. Luckily I rarely use the vent and cook on induction, but I usually use the right cook top area and the fan only works on the left area so that isn't ideal. I am also annoyed that it came with halogen instead of LED lights. They are hot and will need replacement sooner. Luckily I can get LED to replace them when they go. Overall it is okay. I wish there was a more simple version at 36", but I was unable to find one.
